A thoughtful approach to new technology
At American Green, we’re committed to responsible business practices. That commitment extends beyond the forests and businesses we help support. It also shapes how we approach new technology, including artificial intelligence (AI).
We recognize that AI can be a valuable tool, but we also believe it should be used thoughtfully, transparently, and with human judgment.
How we’re approaching AI at American Green
Responsible AI use
We use AI tools (including Claude, ChatGPT, and Canva’s integrated AI tool) to support certain internal tasks, such as research, brainstorming ideas, and improving our efficiencies.
However, protecting our clients’ information is always a priority. We recognize the trust businesses place in us when sharing their documentation, business practices, and other sensitive information. Our approach to AI includes being mindful of data privacy, confidentiality, and how information is shared with third-party tools. Confidential client information is never entered into public AI tools. All our AI work is done with business-licensed AI tools, which do not train on information that we share with it, providing a greater level of privacy and confidentiality.
We also recognize that AI isn’t always accurate. Any AI-assisted information must be evaluated by an American Green team member before being incorporated into our work.
Environmental concerns
As a company dedicated to supporting responsible forest management, we can’t overlook the environmental impact of emerging technologies.
AI requires significant computing power, which consumes energy and water and contributes to the growing environmental footprint of data centers. While AI offers some exciting possibilities, these environmental costs must be considered.
That’s why we strive to be intentional about when and how we use AI. We believe in finding a reasonable balance between embracing useful technology and staying true to our environmental values.
Our approach will continue to evolve as we learn more about AI’s environmental impacts and opportunities for more sustainable use.
Humans are always involved
AI may be a helpful tool, but it isn’t an FSC certification expert. Our American Green team is.
We believe our clients deserve guidance from real people with real industry experience. AI does not replace the professional judgment, expertise, or personal attention that American Green brings to every client relationship.
The same goes for the information we share. All AI-assisted content, whether intended for internal use, client communications, or publication on our website and social media, is subject to human review before it ever gets used.
Our team remains responsible for the accuracy, quality, and integrity of all the work we produce and publish.
